If you are experiencing gum recession, our periodontist, Dr. Robert Ferrell, and his team might be able to help with gum grafting to replace the lost tissue in key areas. There are three main types of gum grafting performed at our practice:

Gingival Graft

Gingival grafts are performed in order to thicken a patient’s gum in a particular area that needs it. A small layer of gum tissue may be taken from the roof of the mouth (the palate) and attached to the area experiencing periodontal recession. Both areas will quickly heal.

Connective Tissue Graft

A connective tissue graft seeks to cover where receding gums have exposed the roots of one or more teeth. Much like a gingival graft, this procedure takes tissue from the palate and grafts it at the affected area.

Alloderm Graft

These grafts are performed using periodontal tissue from a donor instead of the patient themselves, which means less discomfort and recovery. These procedures can also cover a wider area of the mouth to avoid having an excessive amount of surgeries.
